Ballet is a fantastic way to exercise, without feeling as though you are exercising at all. Ballet for Mature movers has been created with the older adult in mind. Based in classical ballet, it utilises exercises to enhance the five pillars of health and well-being:

  • Mindfullness

  • Strength

  • Coordination

  • Mobility

  • Endurance

The class begins with strengthening exercises to get the muscles ready for action, we then move through a classically based barre and finish in the centre with motifs set to music from Carmen, Swan Lake and many more.

Q: I have never done ballet before, can I still attend?

A: Yes! Absolutely, this is a beginner friendly class.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Please wear clothes that are comfortable for you to move in. Leggings and a long top are preferable so that the instructor is able to see your legs to ensure your carrying out the movements correctly and safely.

Q: What shoes should I wear?

A: For your first session you can either wear grippy socks, plimsoles or barefoot. If you decide you would like to continue with the class, great! You can the purchase a pair of ballet shoes directly from your instructor or buy them from a shop. The closest shop is Thomas Moores in Exeter.

Q: Is the class safe for me?

A: Prior to beginning the class your instructor will ask you to fill out a Physical Activity Questionnaire e and provide you with a form detailing the nature of the class and the potential risks involved. It is up to you to then decide if it is something you feel safe taking part in.

That being said, the class has been specifically designed with the needs of older adults in mind and has adaptations for each exercise. Your instructor is also professionally trained in dance and qualified in working with chronic conditions.

Q: What time should I turn up?

Please turn up 10 minutes early to each class for changing, signing in and any questions. It's preferred you arrive 15 minutes before your first session as theres a lot of form filling!

Please drop us an email with any queries, we are happy to help.
